Today is a big day. Today we shed the curtain, uncover our eyes, and start hooting from the rooftops. Today, we launch Calgoo First Draft. So if this is your first time here, let us recap:
Calgoo is new, free software that makes the Google Calendar experience better. Calgoo allows you to subscribe to and work with more calendars than is practical with Google Calendar directly. Your calendars and schedules are brought to the desktop where you can easily search, filter and organize them. Calgoo works when you are online and offline so you don’t need an Internet connection to use your calendar. Calgoo improves calendar sharing and makes it easier for you to collaborate with your friends, colleagues, family and social groups.
Calgoo First Draft is exactly that. It is step one of an iterative process. It is progress. OK… it is Beta, but we’re not calling it that. It works. It will get better. And the best is yet to come.

Cool application… I couldn’t wait to download.. click the link in my email and… ugh… what’s this? An .exe??? Where is the mac version? come on guys, develop for the more discerning audience.
Should probably note it’s just Windows only instead of leaving it to us (mac users) to register, get to the download and find we can’t run it.
I’m guessing it’s C# since the download is a *gigantic* 26MB. Maybe U could offer a version w/o the VM since most of us power testers already will have this installed? Maybe just a link to DL it from MS?
If it’s not managed code with an included VM I just have to wonder about the quality of coding… Anyone remember the days when our OS was less than 26MB–yes, our OS with a gui!
I’d heftily agree it should be noted what it runs on (Windows only). I found out by Gavin’s comment above since I didn’t want to register/download/etc.. only to find it out.
Ouch on the download speeds … I’m on a 5mb line and I am getting about 5-10kb/s …perhaps some mirrors eventually could be put in place?
Well calgoo I wished for a Calendar but never new when I would get one The one I have at Yahoo just makes me to overstiymed.
Oh it’s windows only? Bah…. No place on the main page does it say that anywhere. Should be a firefox plugin. Buh-bye…

NOD32 identifies a worm in the selfextracting archive? Is it an error?
Just to let everyone know, we did verify that NOD triggers on our install kit, MacAffee sometimes does as well but no others that we have used. We found the content that tripped the switch and happily discovered that the 3rd party that provided the offending library had already cleaned that content out (a little quietly for our liking). The content does not trigger NOD or MacAffee at runtime, so running Calgoo does not put you at risk. We appreciate the feedback and have updated our download so that we don’t worry any more users. Thanks to everyone who noticed and took the time to post.
Appreciate hearing from Mac users and glad that our perception of the pain is accurate. We have currently released a raw deploy kit to some Mac users and are moving to a QA round on that platform. If all goes well we’ll have something for you shortly. Thanks again for the feedback.

Is there anyway to view multiple calendars concurrently? Until then, somewhat of a deal breaker. This is DEFINITELY a first draft 🙂
Instead of bundling the JRE in the download install, users should have the choice of downloading a separate installer if they already have it. This baby is huge…

I fail to see how Calgoo makes Google Calendar better. Looks more complicated to me, taking away the power of Google Calendar.

Calgoo installer installed JRE 1.5 on my machine WITHOUT ASKING ME FIRST. It didn’t install a private copy, but the system-wide, registered with browsers copy. I had been avoiding the upgrade because it causes problems with some applets that I need to use; now I’ll have to go cleanup.
